PORTSMOUTH - Elizabeth Ames "Betty" Blanford, 89, passed away Oct. 3, 2011 in Suffolk. A native of Portsmouth, she was the daughter of the late Wainwright and Ruth Ames and the widow of David Blanford Jr. She was a graduate of James Madison University and earned her master's degree at The College of William & Mary. She taught with Portsmouth Public Schools at Woodrow Wilson High School for many years. She was a member of Broad Street United Methodist Church. She is survived by her daughter, Dianne B. Martin of Portsmouth. A graveside service will be conducted Friday at 1 p.m. at Olive Branch Cemetery with the Rev. Milford C. Rollins officiating. The family will receive friends at Snellings Funeral Home, Churchland Chapel, Thursday from 5 to 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Broad Street United Methodist Church, Portsmouth.
